Title: Female Hormone Testing; an evidence based approach for clinical guidelines

In this presentation case & real patient lab results are used to illuminate the following topics:

  • An analysis of testosterone, other androgens and SHBG testing in females
  • A look at when hormones should be tested in a normal cycle
  • An interpretation of LH / FSH ratio
  • Progesterone testing – when it should be tested, what it can reveal, its overall value in clinical assessment and diagnosis, serum vs. saliva
  • How contraception affects laboratory results
  • AMH testing – when it useful, what the ranges are
  • Hormones and lab interpretation in perimenopausal women
  • Laboratory testing while monitoring hormone replacement therapy

Learning objectives:

1. Distinguish the most appropriate hormones to measure, at the most appropriate time, for specific female conditions.
2. Understand the evidence behind specific hormone testing and the value of hormone levels in diagnosing and monitoring conditions
